 Badrinath is a town and nagar panchayat in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. A Hindu holy place, it is one of the four sites in India's Char Dham pilgrimage and is also part of India's Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. It gets its name from the Badrinath Temple.

Badrinath or Badrinarayana Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu which is situated in the town of Badrinath in Uttarakhand, India. The temple is also one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Badrinath—holy shrines for Vaishnavites.

Badrinath, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is one of the four pilgrim centres in the Himalayas that every Hindu yearns to visit at least once in his lifetime.

  There are two legends behind Badrinath Temple, one, as per Hindu legend, is that Vishnu sat in meditation at the location, unaware of the cold weather. His consort, Lakshmi, protected him from the harsh weather in the form of the Badri tree, and pleased with her devotion, he named the place Badrika Ashram.
