Kedarnath is a town in Rudraprayag district in the state of Uttarakhand in India and has gained importance because of the Kedarnath Temple. It is approximately 86 kilometres from Rudraprayag, the district headquarter. It is a Nagar panchayat in the Rudraprayag district.

Kedarnath is a holy town nestled in the Himalayas. Located in Uttarakhand, it is one of the most sacred pilgrimages of Lord Shiva and is one of the famous Char Dham sites.   Kedarnath forms one of the four sites of the Chota Char Dham Pilgrimage. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Kedarnath Temple is among the 275 temples of Paadal Petra Sthalams (the most powerful Shiva temples in the world) and is also the most important among the Panch Kedars.

Tourists will find several shops selling souvenirs, photographs of Kedarnath, Badrinath and other gods. Genuine Rudraksh, which is an important part of Hindu rituals, can also be bought here. Crystals, Saligrams, herbs like Shilajit, precious stones and Tulsi beads are other things which can be purchased here.

The temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, is said to be more than 1,200 years old. It was built by Adi Shankaracharya and is among one of the 12 jyotirlingas in India. A visit to the Kedarnath temple is an integral part of the famous Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.
